SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME (SSI) CLAIMS
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a Federal income supplement program funded by general tax revenues, not Social Security taxes. Unlike Social Security Disability Income (SSDI), with the SSI program there is no requirement to have worked in the past and paid into the program.

REQUEST FOR RECONSIDERATION
If you have filed an initial claim for Social Security disability benefits and have been denied by the Social Security Administration (SSA), but disagree with this decision, you will file a form called “Request for Reconsideration.” This is the first step in appealing the SSA’s decision about your claim.

ADMINISTRATIVE LAW JUDGE HEARINGS
If your “Request for Reconsideration” for Social Security disability benefits has been denied by the Social Security Administration (SSA), you may appeal this reconsideration decision. You can appeal this decision by requesting a hearing in front of an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ).
